V-Hawks Get Revenge, Win Tiebreaker Set over Jamestown

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - #7 Viterbo Women's Volleyball will advance to the single elimination Round of 16 on Friday after the V-Hawks won a tiebreaker set over #24 University of Jamestown, 25-21, at the Tyson Events Center on Thursday night. The set did not count as an official match and no official statistics were kept.

The two teams played a 25-point single set to decide the tiebreaker after both teams finished 2-1 after pool play. #10 Southern Oregon, also 2-1, earned the #1 seed from the tiebreaker and automatically advanced to the Round of 16.

The V-Hawks came out firing to start the set. After a Jimmie set error, kills by Katie Frohmader (SO/Fort Atkinson, Wis.) and Aubrey Aspen (SR/Sparta, Wis.) to give Viterbo a 3-0 lead. Jamestown recovered and scored the next six of eight points to grab a 6-5 lead.

Viterbo reversed the trend and jumped out to a 10-7 lead after two kills by Siera Skow (SR/Hartford, Wis.). Lauryn Sobasky (SO/Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) added an ace during the run.

The Jimmies were relentless and wouldn't give up without a fight. Jamestown scored the next three points to tie the set at 10-10.

Viterbo would extend their lead back to three-point lead once again, only to have it shrunk to one point. The V-Hawks built up their advantage to a game-high four points after a kill from Skow.

Jamestown cut the lead to two points, 23-21, on a double block by Kennedy Conzemius and Britta Knudson. Viterbo closed the door with a kill by Miah Garant (SO/Fort Atkinson, Wis.) and a Jamestown attack error sealed the deal.

Viterbo will face #8 Northwestern College in the Round of 16 on Friday at 9:00 a.m. on Court 2. Watch the game live in the Reinhart Center Board Room 107.
