V-Hawks Take Third Place at Dubuque
DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Viterbo University Women's Track and Field team scored 141.5 points at the University of Dubuque Battle in the Bluffs on Friday. The V-Hawks finished third place out of six teams.
Olivia Wingo took home a gold medal in the pole vault after clearing the NAIA "A" standard height of 3.65m (11'11.75"). She also took fifth in the high jump at 1.50m (4'11") and sixth in the 100 meter dash (12.64 seconds).
Emily Ludwig also collected a first place finish in the 100 hurdles, finishing in 15.30 seconds. Fellow V-Hawks Emma Johnson and Ashely Vernonen were close behind taking second (15.42) and third (15.80) respectively. Emma Schoen also scored, taking eighth at 17.62.
Emily Howell took second in the pole vault behind her teammate with a mark of 3.40m (11'1.75"), while Ludwig was fifth (3.40m (10'2")) and Monica Schmidt was seventh (2.65m (8'8.252").
Martina McGrath recorded the second best mark in the javelin throw at 35.20m (115'6"). Grace Grogan was eighth in the event with a throw of 24.95m (81'10").
Braylee Hyatt scored in each of her events, including third in the 100 (12.51). fifth in the 200 (25.84), and fourth in the 4x100 meter relay (48.63) along with Lillia Chvatal, Ashley Veronen, and Claudia Schunk. Schunk also took fourth in the 100 (12.54) and 200 (25.79). Veronen was fourth in 400 hurdles at 1:08.64, and Chvatal was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 5.03m (16'6").
Tori Gerber was the final V-Hawk to earn a medal, taking third in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:52.39, while Vanessa Thomas was fourth, finishing in 4:59.47.
Pearla Teko-Folly was fourth in both the high jump, clearing 1.55m (5'1") and the triple jump with a mark of 10.54m (34'7"). Joining her in the high jump was Megan Sobotta in sixth (1.40m (4'7")) and Maddie Connor in eighth (1.35m (4'5")). Joining in the triple jump was Kaylee McLeod in the fifth place (9.50m (31'2").
Other scorers for Viterbo include Grace Peyron in the long jump (5.19m, 17'.5", 4th place), Ludwig in the 400 hurdles (1:09.36), Hannah Butler finishing seventh in the 800 (2:33.29), Lainey Teynor taking eighth in the 400 (1:02.16), and Madelyn Kassulke in the 400 hurdles (1:17.97).
The V-Hawks return to action on Thursday, May 9 for Day 1 of the NSAA Conference Championship Meet.
