V-Hawks Take Second at Conference, Wingo Named Outstanding Field Athlete
DAVENPORT, Iowa. – The Viterbo University Women's Track and Field team competed at the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Meet Friday and Saturday placing second of eight teams scoring 166 points.
Olivet Nazarene (IL) claimed the team title with 279 points.
Olivia Wingo wis named the Female Field Athlete of the Meet for scoring the most amount of points.
Wingo scored in two of three of her events, including the pole vault with a height of 3.80m (12-05.5), a meet and school record that ranks fifth in the NAIA, and the high jump with a jump of 1.55m (5-01).
Avery Poppe joined her on the high jump podium claiming the crown with a height of 1.60m (5-03). Poppe's stand out performance also shining through in the long jump placing second with a distance of 5.59m (18-04.25) reaching a National Qualifying B standard and setting a new school record while also taking the crown in the Pentathlon with 3163 points qualifying for nationals with the conference meet record.
Joining Poppe in the long jump also scoring, Lillia Chvatal placed third with a jump of 5.41m (17-09) and Braylee Hyatt in fourth at 5.41m (17-09), the last scoring long jump by Kaylee McLeod with a distance of 5.04m (16-06.5). Rhianna Robinson named conference champion in the triple jump went 10.94m (35-10.75) followed by McLeod at 9.61m (31-06).
Izzy Keck once again qualifying for nationals in the pole vault would claim second at 3.60m (11-09.75) with Emma Johnson right behind her at 3.50m (11-05.75). In fifth Emily Ludwig would vault 3.35m (10-11.75) adding another four points for the V-Hawks. On the throwing side Kaylie Wiedmeyer would claim third place in the weight throw with a distance of 12.70m (41-08) and fourth in the shot put at 12.25m (40-02.25). Two feet behind, Brooklyn Ludescher placed sixth with a throw of 11.62m (38-01.5) and Isabel Rubenzer at 10.84m (35-06.75).
Steller prelim performances by the V-Hawks in the 60m dash Ludwig would finish in third with a time of 9.10, Johnson at 9.32, and Ashley Veronen at 9.50 in seventh. Vanessa Thomas powering through the 5000m run would place second with a time of 18:40.10, and third in the 3000m with a time of 10:34.91. Tori Gerber once again breaking a school record would place sixth in the 1000m with a time of 3:20.72, and place fourth in the 800m at 2:18.24.
Lainey Teynor with a strong finish in the 600m run would finish in third with a time of 1:42.92 followed by Kallie Weyer in eighth at 1:54.10.
