LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Soccer team took down Governor's State University 2-0 Tuesday afternoon. The V-Hawks rise to 6-5-1 (CCAC 3-3-1) while the Tigers fall to 3-10-1 (CCAC 1-6-0).
The V-Hawks would start quickly with the first shot on goal coming in the 3rd minute by Evy Shaw. VU would stay on the offensive attack as they recorded 10 more shots within the next 17 minutes before Governor's State would record their lone shot of the half in the 20th minute. The V-Hawks would dominate the first half as they outshot the Tigers 20-1.
Going into the second half the V-Hawks would look to score again as Maya Bubber's would get off three shots in the first four minutes of the half. The first goal for VU would come off a cross from Shaw as she connected with Jenna Bennet, finding the back of the net giving the V-Hawks a 1-0 lead. A save by Veerle Vriens in the 54th minute would aid the V-Hawks with the lead. In the 74th minute a bouncing ball would land at Casey Hill's feet as she launched a shot into the back of the goal scoring her first collegiate goal along with giving the V-Hawks a 2-0 lead. Vriens would record three saves on the afternoon giving the V-Hawks their 5th shutout of the season.
The V-Hawks return to action this Saturday, October 19th as they travel to Indiana Northwest.
