La Crosse, WI – The Viterbo University Women's Soccer team fell to Holy Cross at home Saturday afternoon 1-0. The V-Hawks drop to 4-5-0 (CCAC 1-3-0) while the Saints rise to 6-6-0 (CCAC 4-1-0).
The V-Hawks would start quick as Brooke Clements took the first corner of the half in the 2nd minute of the game. Keeping the momentum Kelcie Karweick would start the shooting placing the first shot of the game wide in the 5th minute. Clements would land the first shot on goal in the 10th minute followed up 13 seconds later with another shot on goal by Emma Schwin. Both shots being saved by Holy Cross's keeper Madeleine Agee. The V-Hawks would continue the offensive attack throughout the first half however, on a counterattack in the 36th minute the Titans would score giving them the 1-0 lead. Going into the half the V-Hawks would take 12 corner kicks while the Titans had 0. VU would also lead in shots 13-3.
Evelyn Shaw would continue the attack for the V-Hawks as she landed a shot high in 56th minute. Both teams would continue to battle throughout the half. Keeping Viterbo in the game Veerle Vriens would record her last save in the 74th minute. In a last stitch effort to equalize the game Lauren Wedig would look for goal as Agee wouldmake the save. With two seconds left in the game Kinneys shot would also be saved as the V-Hawks fall short.
The V-Hawks return to action Wednesday October 9th on the road against Calumet College of St. Joseph.
