LA CROSSE Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Soccer team out scored Bethany Lutheran University in their home opener on Saturday afternoon. The V-Hawks rise 1-2-0, while the Vikings fall to 0-1-0.
Kelcie Karweick would take the first shot of the game for the V-Hawks landing high, though following two corner kicks by Jenna Bennett, Evelyn Shaw would take the first shot on goal of the game. Late in the 10th minute Bennett would set the tone with a goal assisted by Brooke Clements and Evelyn Shaw.
The V-Hawks wouldn't let up on the offensive as Lauren Wedig would take the next shot on goal, saved by Vikings goalkeeper Arayah Baker. Madison Zilm would record a save on the final shot on goal of the period heading into the half.
Bethany Lutheran would come out of the half with a plan, scoring a goal in the 49th minute. Bennett would once again take to the net with a solo goal at 56:33. The V-Hawks kept it up on the goal with shots from Hadley Dammer and Shaw. Bennett would once again find the back of the goal off a corner kick from Casey Hill leading them to victory.
Zilm would record two saves, while Sophia Brunner would record one.
The V-Hawks return to action on Sunday, September 8 as they take on St. Thomas University.
