V-Hawks Narrowly Fall to Bees

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Soccer team fell to conference leading St. Ambrose University (Iowa) in their final home game of the season on Tuesday afternoon, 2-1. The V-Hawks fall to 7-4-5 (5-3-2 CCAC) on the year, while the Fighting Bees improve to 11-4-0 (9-1-0 CCAC).

St. Ambrose took the first shot on goal of the game, three minutes in, but it was saved by Veerle Vriens. After Brooke Clements had her own attempt saved, Ella Herman scored on an assist by Lauren Wedig with a shot off the post. Three shots from SAU went wide, and two more were saved before the end of the half, but the V-Hawks held on to the lead.

Following a lightning delay, Herman started the second half with a shot that went high, and Taylor DeSplinter for the Bees found the net to even the score. Vriens had another two saves in quick succession around the 75th minute, but with under 10 minutes, the Bees turned up the pressure, with five shots, and two on goal before Kaitlyn Brunson put in the go ahead goal at 87:25.

The Bees outshot the V-Hawks 20-3, with Herman taking two shots and Clements taking one, and two players from St. Ambrose taking four. Veerle Vriens (L, 2-1-2) recorded seven saves, and Rachel Willette (W, 9-3-0) had one.

The V-Hawks regular season finale is on Saturday, October 28 at Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.).
