Herman Nets Game-Winner at Roosevelt

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Viterbo University Women's Soccer team earned a 2-1 win over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) opponent Roosevelt University (Ill.) on Tuesday night, extending their winning streak to four. The V-Hawks improve to 7-2-5 (5-1-2 CCAC) on the year, while the Lakers fall to 4-9 (2-7 CCAC).

The match would be a defensive battle early, as Jenna Bennett landed the only shot on goal of the first 40 minutes. It was saved by Gaby Aguinaga-Hernandez, and Brooke Clements would be the only one to take another shot for Viterbo, with one of her attempts going wide left, but the other finding the back of the net for an unassisted goal at 41:52.

In the 49th minute, Roosevelt had their first shot on goal, which was saved by Veerle Vriens. Ella Herman extended the V-Hawk lead to 2-0 with a score at 54:45, but the Lakers answered as Mayte Gongora scored from 40 yards out in the 62nd minute. The increased offense continued through the second half, with Vriens earning two more saves, as well as substitute Molly Ripley saving the final attempt as time expired. Clements, Lauren Wedig, and Ashlee Tupper all also added second half shots on goal.

Clements was the only V-Hawk with multiple shots on goal, and led the match with four shots. Gongora had two on goal on three shots for RU. Veerle Vriens (W, 3-0-2) recorded three saves and Gaby Aguinaga-Hernandez (L, 0-3-0) had four.

The V-Hawks return to the pitch on Saturday, October 21 as they travel to the University of St. Franics (Ill.).
