Hager Hits Game-Winner at Governors State

CROWN POINT, Ind. – The Viterbo University Women's Soccer team secured a 1-0 win over Governors State University (Ind.) in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference bout on Wednesday afternoon. The V-Hawks improve to 5-2-5 (2-1-2 CCAC), while the Jaguars fall to 3-8-0 (1-5-0 CCAC).

The teams traded high shots to start the match, with GSU then hitting the crossbar on their second shot. The Jaguars then had the first shot on goal of the match, taken by Jinni Jimienez in the 33rd minute, but Molly Ripley saved the attempt. Rachel Kinney had the first shot on target for the V-Hawks as the half expired, but Mayra Guerrero saved it to hold the 0-0 stalemate.

Kinney's shot went high again to start the second half, and Veerle Vriens, who took over in the goal for the V-Hawks in the second, had her first save at 59:37. Vriens then had back-to-back saves five minutes later, but Aimee Kemper's attempt was also saved in the 68th. Kinney's corner kick found Elle Hager at 84:37 for the game-winning goal, as a last second attempt by the Jaguars was saved by Vriens.

Brooke Clements took three shots for Viterbo, while Kinney, Kemper, and Hager were the three with attempts on goal. Ana Isabel Mas recorded a match-high five shots for the Jaguars. Vriens recorded the win with four saves, and Guerrero had two.

The V-Hawks return to action on Saturday, October 14 as they host Indiana University-Northwest.
