Conference Opener Ends in 2-2 Draw

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Soccer team drew a 2-2 tie with Saint Xavier University (Ill.) in their first conference match as a member of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC). The V-Hawks now hold a 2-1-4 (0-0-1 CAC) record, while the Cougars sit at 3-0-3 (1-0-1 CCAC).

Brooke Clements started the match with a header attempt on a pass from Hadley Dammer that nearly missed by hitting the crossbar. In the 11th minute, Ella Herman dribbled the ball up on her own, and knocked in an unassisted goal. Clements would follow with another shot on goal that was saved at 14:41. Veronica Davila would then even the score on a penalty kick attempt at 17:44. Herman landed another shot on goal, but it would be saved, and while Alex Jonaitis took four shots toward the end of the period, none were on goal. Neida Ocampo took the final two attempts of the half, and Veerle Vriens saved the latter of the two.

Ocampo took another shot to start the second half, as did Hailey Henry, but both would be saved by Molly Ripley. In the 71st minute, Clements shot would finally reach the net, on an assist by Isabel Henry, but seven minutes later, Davila would even the match again on yet another penalty shot attempt. The V-Hawks attempted three more shots in the game, with Herman's hitting the crossbar, but it would ultimately end in a draw.

Herman and Clements each had a score with two shots on goal, and Henry had a shot to go with her assist. Jonaitis took five total shots, and Ocampo had four with two on goal. Molly Ripley (T, 2-1-2) had two saves, as did Eden Suda (T, 1-0-1).

The V-Hawks return to action on Saturday, September 23 as they host Indiana-South Bend.
