Hager's Late Goal Ties Match for the V-Hawks

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Soccer team hosted UW-Stout in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon, and the match ended in a 2-2 tie. The V-Hawks now hold a 2-1-3 record, while the Blue Devils sit at 2-1-1.

Stout would start on the offensive, taking two shots in the first three minutes, then at 5:28, Lauren Boyd scored off a Melanie Wallisch corner kick to go up 1-0. Lauren Wedig took the first shot for the V-Hawks in the 7th minute, but it was saved by the Blue Devils. After Veerle Vriens had her first save of the day in the 16th minute, Brooke Clements set up Wedig for another shot, and this one would find the back of the net to even the match at 1-1. Over the next 20 minutes, Clements and Ella Herman would each record a shot on goal, and after Stout would take a final attempt at 39:10, Aimee Kemper ended the half with a shot that was saved by Claire Olson.

Kristen Silenzi took over at Keeper for the Blue Devils in the second half, and quickly recorded three saves. UWS would then take the lead on their first shot of the second half, a goal by Sami Moseng from Lauren Chukel and Kate Holst. Molly Ripley would save their final attempt in the 85th minute, and Elle Hager tied the match again, assisted by Hadley Dammer and Casey Hill, on a goal with just 1:09 left in the game.

Clements had a total of three shots on goal, with an assist, awhile Wedig had two and a goal, and Hager scored on her lone on target shot. Rachel Younker had two of her four shots land on goal for Stout. Veerle Vriens (T, 0-0-1) earned the tie with two saves, while Claire Olson (T, 1-0-1) had four.

The V-Hawks return to action of Tuesday, September 19 as they host their first CCAC conference matchup against Saint Xavier (Ill.) at 1 PM.
