V-Hawks Dominate Knights in 9-0 Win

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Soccer team defeated Martin Luther College (Minn.) in a 9-0 rout Friday evening. The V-Hawks improve to 2-1-1 on the season, while the Knights start their season 0-1-0.

Martin Luther was on the attack immediately, landing a shot on goal just a minute in, but Viterbo responded with a goal by Brooke Clements, assisted by Ella Herman, just :20 seconds later. Herman would then score a goal of her own in the 11th minute, quickly followed by Jenna Bennett, assisted by Casey Hill and Clements, for the 3-0 lead. After two saves by Martin Luther's Rebekah Schroeder, the Knights would take three shots in rapid succession, but they would all be blocked. Lauren Wedig would extend the lead to 4-0 off an assist by Elle Hager at 20:42 and Clements would score for the second time of the day, assisted by Isabel Henry and Maya Bubbers, in the 28th minute. Shani Tiber would record her first career goal in the 38th minute, and Henry would score an unassisted goal in the 40th minute to help the V-Hawks take a 7-0 lead into the break.

Schroeder would save seven goals to start the second half before Rachel Kinney would get Viterbo back on the board, assisted by Clements. Henry would have a pair of shots blocked in the 74th minute, and set up Ashlee Tupper just before the 80 minute mark. Tupper would land another shot on goal five minutes later, and the match would end in a 9-0 V-Hawk victory.

Clements had two goals and two assists on seven shots (five on goal), and Henry had a pair of assists with a goal on eight attempts (three on goal). Madeline Walz had the lone shot on goal for the Knights. Molly Ripley (W, 2-1-1) had one save, while Rebekah Schroeder (L, 0-1-0)               had 19. The V-Hawks took 54 total shots, 28 landing on goal.
