Viterbo tops Iowa Wesleyan; Breuchel Records 22nd Goal of the Season

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Viterbo University Women's Soccer team competed against Iowa Wesleyan in a conference match on Sunday. The V-Hawks defeated the Tigers 2-0 advancing to 7-4-2 overall and 1-0-1 in league play. Iowa Wesleyan falls to 7-7-0 overall and 1-2-0 in conference. 

Viterbo took the first shot of the game at 8:24 but was unsuccessful with a save by Tiger's goalie Cheleena Squibb. Viterbo would take three more shots before Iowa Wesleyan took their first of the game at the 35:24 mark and saved by goalie Anna Becker. Two shots attempted by V-Hawk's Jenna Bennett and Grace Breuchel in the last five minutes of the first half were saved by Squibb. The teams ended the first half 0-0. 

Starting the second half, Viterbo attempted three shots at the Tigers goal before a corner kick by Bennett would lead to the first goal of the game at 51:14 by Breuchel. The V-Hawks kept attempting shots throughout the second half and Squibb recorded four more saves. Iowa Wesleyan took their fourth and final shot attempt of the game at 84:42 and was saved by Becker. Viterbo played hard till the last second of the game with Breuchel scoring their second and final goal of the night at the 89:59 mark, her 22nd goal of the season.

The V-Hawks allowed four total shot attempts by the Tigers and 1 corner kick. Viterbo took a total of 23 shots making 2 in the net and took 3 total corner kicks in the game. Iowa Wesleyan's goalie, Cheleena Squibb recorded a total of 13 saves while Viterbo's goalie Anna Becker recorded 3.

The V-Hawks will compete at home against Finlandia University on Saturday, October 22 at 4:00PM CST.
