V-Hawks Fall to Ranked Loras as Home

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Soccer team hosted the Loras College Duhawks, ranked 24th in the most recent NCAA DIII United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, on Friday and fell 2-4. The V-Hawks fall to 5-4-1 while the Duhawks improve to 7-0-3.

A foul on Viterbo early on in the first half helped Payton McDonnell score a Duhawk goal at 4:39. Goal keepers Kyndal Kells and Anna Becker each made a save within 15 minutes of the first half. A shot by Belle Johnson led to a goal at 24:47 for Viterbo by freshman Grace Breuchel. Becker recorded another save before ending the first half 1-1.

11 into the second half, Abby Erickson's pass found Savannah Johnson to give the advantage back to the Duhawks. In the 60th minute, a Loras corner kick led to multiple consecutive headers that hit the crossbar until Lauren Riggle finally found the net. In the 80th minute, a cross by Elle Hager to Isabel Henry, then a short pass to Aimee Kemper brought the game back to within one, 2-3. But four minutes later, Riggle scored her second goal of the day, and the game ended in a 4-2 Loras victory.

The Duhawks outshot the V-Hakws 13-6 including 7-5 on goal, and took all six corner kicks in the game. Kyndal Kells (7-0-3) recorded the win with two saves. Becker had two saves and Madison Williams had one.

The V-Hawks return to the pitch Sunday, October 9 at Concordia Moorehead (Minn.)
