V-Hawks Earn Win at Northwestern

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – The Viterbo University Women's Soccer team traveled to the University of Northwestern (Minn.) and came home with a 5-1 win on Wednesday. The V-Hawks improve to 4-2-1 while the Eagles drop to 0-4.

Grace Bruechel, the reigning Continental Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, put the V-Hawks on the board early, putting in a Belle Johnson-assisted goal at 4:02. UNW answered with a shot on goal one minute later that was saved by goalie Molly Ripley. Johnson and Lauren Wedig would each take multiple shots over the next 20 minutes, but it would be Hadley Dammer, set up by Johnson's second assist of the day, that would connect to put Viterbo up 2-0. Megan Moeller would answer back for the Vikings in the 30th minute on an assist from Briella Babcock. Two minutes later, Rachel Kinney found Grace Breuchel and the V-hawks would take a 3-1 lead into halftime.

Breuchel completed her hat trick at the 51:34 mark on an assist from Jenna Bennett and Kinney recorded her second assist by setting up Mikayla Lazarski seven minutes later. Northwestern managed three more shots on goal, but Madison Williams would put up a second half shut out, and Viterbo would claim the 5-1 win.

Viterbo would outshoot UNW 20-10, including 10-5 on goal, and take 10 corner kicks to three from the Vikings. Ripley (2-0-10) claimed the win while recording one save, and Reagan Flaschberger saved three goals in 86 minutes played.

Viterbo returns to the pitch on Friday, September 16 at UW-Stout.
