Viterbo Women's Soccer holds off Waldorf University

By Chris Porter, V-Hawk Contributor

LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Viterbo University Women's Soccer team improved to 4-0 on the season after a win on Monday afternoon against Waldorf University. Alexie Stephani (Fr. - Blaine, Minn.) started things off for the V-Hawks scoring in the 25th minute. Sydney King (Jr. - Blue Mounds, Wis.) gave Viterbo a commanding 2-0 lead in the 35th minute.

The second half featured multiple momentum swings as Waldorf University gave the V-Hawks all they could handle. Autumn Peterson gave Waldorf their first score and the momentum in the 58th minute. Abbey Kellner (Jr. - Rochester, Minn.) gave Viterbo some breathing room ten minutes later and Viterbo looked set to coast to victory until Sydney Boyd scored in the 87th minute. In order to steady the ship, Alexie Stephani said, "[We] kept our cool, stayed really calm, and focused on possessing the ball. They had the wind to their advantage in the second half so we played more simple and focused on possessing the ball." Despite some last-minute shots from Waldorf, Abby Breitbach (Sr. - Oregon, Wis.) was able to hold the Warriors to only two goals to secure the win.

At 4-0, Stephani said the team continues to find ways to improve. "Coach finds new things that we can work on each practice by studying each game and seeing where we are weak. We focus on these things during practice and halftime during games Coach picks specific examples to help us continue to learn in real-time".

The Viterbo Women's Soccer team travels to Watertown, Wisconsin on October 13 to face Maranatha Baptist University. That game is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start. Follow the action on V-Hawk Game Day or by following us on social media.
