ADDISON, Ill. – The Viterbo University Women's Bowling team competed at Sectionals of the US Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships this weekend. The V-Hawks finished 21st out of 23 teams with 10,918 total pins over 64 games.

The first day of the competition was individual games, and Emily Newbauer was the top performer for the V-Hawks. She finished fifth place out of 219 bowlers with 1,315 pins over six games, averaging 219 per game. She was the only female bowler in the field to not record a game less than 200, and her best round of 279 was the third best game of the entire weekend. She finished only 24 pins behind first place. Her fifth place finish qualifiers her for the Intercollegiate Singles Championships. She is the third V-Hawk to ever qualify, joining Andy Mills and Matt Krueger in 2013.

On Saturday and Sunday, teams played 32 games on each day, broken into 16 game blocks. Viterbo was in 23rd after the first block of games with 2,511 pins. They had the 16th best score of the second block, 2,913, but remained in 21st. Again, despite recording the 18th best score in the third block, they remained in 21st, and that is where they would finished following a third block of 2,678.

Mount Mercy (Iowa) was the team champion with 13,130 pins, and the Mustangs Mackenzie Ullian was the individual champion with 1,329 over six games.

Newbauer will compete in Louisville, Kentucky for the Individual Championship, being one of 24 bowlers to qualify.
