Drew Leads V-Hawks in Win
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Basketball team came out on top in their conference rematch against Trinity Christian College 82-47. The V-Hawks improve to 12-10 (CCAC 5-9) while the Trolls fall to 2-18 (2-12 CCAC).
The V-Hawks opened the game with an eight point run, Emily McCurdy working hard on defense with rebounds and steals. Pearla Teko-Folly entering the game made the layup before forcing a steal and grabbing crucial offensive rebounds. On back to back layups Aubrey Dorn would end the quarter.
Marley Hughes draining a three would put the V-Hawks up by eleven early in the second quarter, continuing with a layup on a fast break. Freshman, Carly Drew would score the next 10 points for Viterbo before the half ran out.
On a late start, McCurdy would find Nicole Johnson for the layup before Teko-Folly would take to the free throw line knocking down both to start a nine point run. Off a steal by Dorn McCurdy would seal the layup before the quarter was up.
Kira John would make the first layup of the fourth quarter before Shayna Williamson would drain a three from Taylor Jacobson. Lauryn Goettl with the jumper continued creating plays finding Gabby Fors for three. The V-Hawks with a large lead would continue to be strong in the paint with John under the hoop.
Drew led the V-Hawks from the floor with 11 points. Kyla Smith led the Tigers with 11.
The V-Hawks outshot the Trolls from the floor 44% to 28.9% and three 35% to 28.6% while also outrebounding 46-27
The V-Hawks return to action Wednesday February 5 at on the road at Saint Xavier.
