V-Hawks Caught Under the Talons
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Basketball team fell to University of Indiana-Northwest on Wednesday afternoon at home 71-62. The V-Hawks fall to 10-7 (CCAC 3-6) while the Red Hawks rise to 13-4 (CCAC 6-3).
Macy Stellner, coming out triumphant to open the game for the V-Hawks before Nicole Johnson would commit a block and grab the rebound. The V-Hawks only down by three would work, Lauryn Goettl pulling up for the jumper bringing the deficit to one before knocking down back to back threes shortly after.
The V-Hawks down to open the second quarter would fight for control of the ball, Carly Drew draining a three off a steal by Johnson. Finding the ball again Drew would drop another though a three by Nora Tucker would tie up the game for the first time. Marley Hughes and Tucker would claim the remaining 10 points with a series of layups and three.
Emily McCurdy would draw the and one to open the second half, though Macy Stellner would take the line shortly after making both free throws, before knocking down a half court shot at the buzzer to keep the lead.
The fourth opened with a hard battle for the ball, Pearla Teko-Folly breaking the dry spell with a layup with only a few minutes to go. Drew stepping up from three would help the V-Hawks pull the deficit within 10, and Lambrigtsen pulling the end to nine.
Goettl led the V-Hawks from the floor with 12 points. Jessica Carrothers led the Red Hawks with 32.
The V-Hawks were outshot from the floor 48.3% to 40.4% and though outrebounded 30-28.
The V-Hawks return to action Saturday, January 118, at home.
