Tigers Best V-Hawks at Home
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Basketball team outmatched UW-Superior on Saturday afternoon 116-69. The V-Hawks fall to 9-3 (CCAC 2-2) while the Tigers rise to 6-5 (CCAC 4-1).
Viterbo opened the game facing a relentless Olivet offense, falling behind 30-13 by the end of the quarter. Despite the early struggles, Nicole Johnson made her presence felt with a strong finish at the rim, while Emily McCurdy added a layup in the paint. Macy Stellner worked hard securing rebounds on both sides of the ball helping the V-Hawks to limit second-chance shots, though ONU's tempo created challenges for VU.
Olivia Lambrigtsen, attacking the rim to score tough layups and making defensive plays would help to slow the Tiger's rhythm, though they carried their first quarter momentum. Marley Hughes added key points with a mid-range jumper before Johnson continued to finish on opportunities in the paint.
The V-Hawks found their stride in the third quarter, putting up their best offensive performance with 29points. Stellner provided a spark on offense with a three and a strong finish at the rim. Lambrigtsen would continue to drive in the lane, creating outlets for the V-Hawks. At a deficit McCurdy continued to create pressure on defense keeping the game competitive.
Stellner, continuing to hit mid range jumpers and Lambrigtsen's work in the lane, would lead the fight for the V-Hawks, though the game became out of range.
Stellner and Drew led the V-Hawks with 13 and 12 points respectively. Brooklyn Marshall led the Tigers with 21.
The V-Hawks were outshot by the Tigers from the floor 51.5-38.5% though were outshot from three 34.8-31.6%, from three 36.1-31.6%, and outrebounded 51-30.
The V-Hawks return to action Saturday, December 21, at Trinity Christian.
