V-Hawks Squash Yellowjackets

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Basketball team outmatched UW-Superior on Friday evening 72-53. The V-Hawks rise to 8-2 (CCAC 2-1) while the Yellowjackets fall to 3-6.

Macy Stellner led the opening charge scoring four of the opening nine for the V-Hawks, Marley Hughes would score the first three's of the half before a series of turnovers would run out the first quarter clock.

The V-Hawks hungry for a bigger lead would claim a basket in the first five seconds of the quarter by Olivia Lambrigtsen. Carly Drew forcing a turnover would draw a foul taking to the line making both free throw. The V-Hawks with less than three minutes remaining in the half, would find Hughes scoring off a layup reinforced by Emily McCurdy with another layup.

Stellner remaining an offensive threat would complete a series of made free throws and assists in the opening 11 points. The V-Hawks on a mission would again find Drew on the free throw line before capitalizing on a jumper.

Only ten minutes left in the game, Drew would drain a three and score on a tip in from herself. McCurdy scoring on a layup, drawing an and one creating an 18 point lead over UW-S. The V-Hawks would hold the Yellowjackets to 51 for the final two minutes of the game.

Stellner and Hughes led the V-Hawks with 12 points each.  Katie Dobson led the Yellowjackets with 15.

The V-Hawks outshot the Yellowjackets from the floor 40.6-33.9% though were outshot from three 34.8-31.6%, while outrebounding 38-37.

The V-Hawks return to action Saturday, December 14, as they host Olivet Nazarene for conference play.
