V-Hawks Outlast Eagles

LAWRENCE, Kans. – The Viterbo University Women's Basketball team took down their second matchup of the Haskell Invitational Saturday afternoon defeating Northern New Mexico 62-50. The V-Hawks improve to 4-1 while the Eagles fall to 4-3.

Quickly in the first quarter Emily McCurdy would drain a three from Olivia Lambrigtsen, Nicole Johnson scoring the next four points before Lambrigtsen would draw an and one. Peral Teko-Folly entering the game would make quick work under the hoop with a layup. The V-Hawks hot on the scoring, Carly Drew would shoot from three coming out successful before Teko-Folly would soon follow with a putback. With only 30 seconds remaining in the quarter both Johnson and Drew would take to the free throw line making all four.

The V-Hawks coming off the first quarter would be unsuccessful on the floor until only five minutes remained in the half when Teko-Folly would finally ring home. Lauryn Goettl entering the game would make the steal before drawing a foul to take to the free throw line swishing both, Macy Stellner finding Goettl again for a final layup of the half.

McCurdy finding Stellner for three, the V-Hawks dominating possession, Teko-Folly would score four of the next eight points.

Opening the fourth quarter, Stellner would drive collecting an and one before grabbing her own rebound and drawing another foul on the shot, coming out successful in her next two free throws. Not letting up on the pressure Drew and Teko-Folly would continue to take to the paint, claiming the win.

Teko-Folly led the V-Hawks with 12 points and Drew had nine points. Ethena Silva led the Eagles with 15.

The V-Hawks outshot the Eagles from the floor, 37.0%-35.5%, while also outshooting from three 33.3-22.2%. The V-Hawks outrebounded the Vikings 52-27 and had 16 turnovers compared to the Eagle's 12.

The V-Hawks return to action on Sunday, November 17 at the Haskell Invitational, where they will face host Haskell University.
