V-Hawks Dominate Bears

LAWRENCE, Kans. – The Viterbo University Women's Basketball team dominated in their first matchup of the Haskell Invitational Friday afternoon defeating Barclay College 104-25. The V-Hawks improve to 3-1 while the Bears fall to 0-6.

The V-Hawks set the tone early with a jump shot by Olivia Lambrigtsen followed by power on defense forcing more than one turnover, converting them to points Macy Stellner and Marley Hughes would find the open lane. Late in the first quarter, Macy Stellner nailed a three setting the V-Hawks up 29-5 to end the first quarter.

Emily McCurdy would be relentless on the offensive, drawing numerous fouls and capitalizing on a few layups. With less than two minutes remaining in the half, Carly Drew would pull up for a jump shot. Finding the ball in her hands once more Drew drained a three ending the half.

Viterbo coming out from the half, was ready to keep the momentum going, with a quick layup from Nicole Johnson before Lambrigtsen would swish three back to back jumpers from beyond the arc.

Shayna Williamson making her mark on the game would score eight of 15 points for the V-Hawks in the fourth, with Kira John also finding her way around the hoop with a series of layups.

Drew led the V-Hawks with 20, Lambrigtsen followed with 16 points. Perry led the Bears with nine.

The V-Hawks outshot the Bears from the floor, 58.1-27.3% while outrebounding 42-23.

The V-Hawks return to action on Saturday, November 16 for day two of the Haskell Invitational, facing Northern New Mexico.
