LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Basketball team won in their 2024-25 home season opener against William Penn University (IA) 79-49. The V-Hawks rise to 2-1 while the Statesmen fall to 1-2.
Macy Stellner and Nicole Johnson would start the game with a combined 10 of the opening 14 points by the V-Hawks. While holding the Statesmen to only two points Stellner would snag another four points before the end of the first quarter.
Looking to make a comeback the V-Hawk's would need to put the pressure on, Stellner would find Lambrigtsen open not once but twice for quick three's to keep the narrowing lead heading into the half.
The V-Hawks would come out of the half with Lambrigtsen scoring two layups. Freshman Carly Drew would make her V-Hawk debut with eight points, before Emily McCurdy would score the final layup of the quarter with only a few seconds remaining.
Johnson would take the free throw line as the game would become more physical, draining both, with four more to follow. As the clock continued to count down Abby Ward would seize the opportunity, scoring the final five points of the game for the V-Hawks
Lambrigtsen led the V-Hawks with 14 points and Stellner had 10 points. Lacy Whitcomb led the Statesmen with 12.
The V-Hawks outshot the statesmen from the floor, 39.0%-28.3%, while also outshooting from three 29.0%-14.3%. The V-Hawks outrebounded the Vikings 42-34 and had 19 turnovers compared to the Statesmen's 28.
The V-Hawks return to action on Friday, November 15 at the Haskell Invitational, where they will first face Barclay College.
