McCurdy Leads V-Hawks Win over Warriors

FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Viterbo University Women's Basketball team defeated Waldorf University (Iowa) on the road, 73-62, on Wednesday night. The V-Hawks improve to 11-11 (6-5 NSAA) on the year, while the Warriors fall to 6-18 (1-10 NSAA).

While Waldorf jumped out to a 6-2 lead, Emma Wagner and Macy Stellner scored the next nine points of the game. Four points from Madison Hugdahl brought the score to 15-10, and an Emily McCurdy jumper with left the score at 17-13 after one.

McCurdy scored four more early in the second, and Marley Hughes added a three-pointer. Wagner and Hughes both added another three, and Nora Tucker got in on the action with a triple of her own as Viterbo led 39-27 going into halftime.

Viterbo spread out the offense in the third, with contributions from Nicole Johnson, Stellner, Hugdahl, Hughes, and Pearla Teko-Folly. However, after a Stellner free throw, Waldorf closed the gap to single digits going into the final period, 55-46.

McCurdy converted an and-one to start the fourth quarter, and after Waldorf closed it to six points, scored four straight for the 10-point lead. She added another layup, and while the Warriors made some clutch shots, the V-Hawks hit their layups to hold onto the 73-62 win.

McCurdy led all players with 21 points, Hughes had 11 with five assists, and Johnson grabbed seven rebounds. Alyah Abrahamson had 16 points for the Warriors.

Viterbo outshot Waldorf 45% - 28% from the floor, though Waldorf was more efficient from three, 33.3% - 25%. The rebounds battle (32-33) and turnover battle (9-11) were nearly even.

Viterbo finishes their regular season on Friday, February 16 as they host Mayville State University (ND).
