MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's basketball team lost an exhibition game to NCAA Division I UW-Milwaukee on Wednesday night, 100-37. The Panthers improve to 7-6 on the year, while the V-Hawks record is unaffected.
Milwaukee would score the first eight points of the game, with Macy Stellner got the V-Hawks on the board with a layup at 7:17. Gina Stefferud set up a Lauryn Goettl layup and scored one of her own, but Viterbo trailed 23-10 at the end of the period.
After an Emily McCurdy jumper, the V-Hawks put together a string of three by Emma Wagner, Marley Hughes, and Nora Tucker, and Viterbo trailed by 10 with 4:19 in the half. Goettl scored one final jumper at the buzzer to bring the score to 37-25.
UWM stepped up their defense in the second half, as the V-Hawks only scored six points in the third period, baskets from McCurdy, Hughes, and Goettl. The same happened in the final quarter, as Jada Kawalczyk hit a jumper and a free throw, Zuzanna Pacak hit two from the stripe, and Lydia Niederstadt hit a single free throw, bringing the final score to 37-100.
Goettl led the V-Hawks with six points, and Nicole Johnson grabbed six rebounds. 11 different V-Hawks scored in the game.
The V-Hawks return to action on Thursday, December 21 as they travel to the University of St. Francis (Ill.).
