Viterbo Ends Regular Season with a Win Over Waldorf

WALDORF, Iowa - The Viterbo University Women's Basketball team finished their regular season on Thursday evening with an 84-65 win over Waldorf University. The V-Hawks end their season with an overall record of 6-19 (3-10 NSAA) while the Warriors finish 4-20 overall (2-12 NSAA). 

Natalia Leguizamon was the first to score for the V-Hawks landing a three pointer at the 9:27 mark. The teams traded points before a free throw by Madison Hugdahl tied the game at 7-7. A three by Emma Wagner helped the V-Hawks gain a slight lead 11-7 at the 3:31 mark. Viterbo stretched their lead allowing the Warriors to put up only two more points in the last seven minutes of quarter one. Leguizamon put up a jumper with 10 seconds left in the quarter with Viterbo leading 18-9. Waldorf put up the first points of quarter two with a three-pointer by Lindsay Field at the 8:49 mark. The V-Hawks didn't slow down with Wagner adding a three-pointer at the 4:59 mark bringing the score to 27-19. A layup by Eliza McKown helped the Warriors get with five points of the V-Hawks but Viterbo kept their lead with Kaitlyn Kennedy adding a layup to end quarter two 36-28.

Gina Stefferud contributed back-to-back baskets for the V-Hawks with Viterbo leading 46-31. A three-pointer by Kennedy at the 3:32 mark allowed Viterbo to widen the gap, 55-35. Each team added a layup to end quarter three with the V-Hawks dominating 62-39. Julia Salmon put up the first points for Viterbo to start off quarter four. Taylor Moen landed three free-throws for the Warriors at the 7:36 mark bringing the score to 70-46. A three-pointer by Wagner at the 5:26 mark put Viterbo up 77-53. Salmon added back-to-back jumpers giving Viterbo the win 84-65.

Viterbo outscored Waldorf from the field (48.4%-34.9%) and from the three (52%-26.1%).

Wagner led the V-Hawks with 18 points followed by Hugdahl with 13 points and 3 steals. Leguizamon added 11 points. Sophie Leinfelder contributed 9 assists.

Kinsey Tweedy led the Warriors with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Lindsay Field contributed 12 points and 5 rebounds. Bethany Rehse added 14 points.

The sixth-seeded V-Hawks will travel to third-seeded Bellevue (Neb.) on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m.
