V-Hawks Fall to Trojans at Home

LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Viterbo University Women's Basketball team took on the Dakota State Trojans at home on Friday. The V-Hawks were defeated 57-86 bringing their overall record to 5-13 and 2-4 in league play. The Trojans move up to 14-5 overall and 4-1 in NSAA play.

The Trojans got a head start in quarter one scoring the first 12 points of the game before a layup by Tyreesha Blaylock put Viterbo on the board at the 6:00 mark. A layup by Savannah Walsdorf kept Dakota State in the lead 2-16. Sophie Leinfelder answered back for the V-Hawks landing a three-pointer with 3:13 left in the first quarter. The Trojans maintained their lead with two free throws by Lilli Mackley ending quarter one 7-23. V-Hawk Madison Hugdahl landed two free throws for Viterbo in the second quarter bringing the score to 11-29. The teams traded points before Sidney Fick with the Trojan's put up two free throws at the 2:59 mark with a score of 15-37. V-Hawk Emma Wagner contributed a three-pointer followed by Macy Stellner with a jumper finishing the half 24-45.

Dakota State remained in the lead scoring the first 11 points of quarter three. Emily McCurdy landed a jumper at the 5:10 mark with Viterbo still trailing 28-57. The teams traded points before Kaitlyn Kennedy landed a three-pointer for the V-Hawks at the 2:12 mark. Maikken Vincent put up two free throws to end quarter three 37-66. The Trojans stretched their lead 76-37 with a free throw by Olivia Ritter. V-Hawks McCurdy and Blaylock each added a jump shot bringing the score to 44-79. Megan Miedema added a three for the V-Hawks to end the game with a final score of 57-86.

The V-Hawks shot 100% from the free throw line compared to the Trojans 73.1%. Dakota State beat Viterbo from the field (32.8%-49.2%).

Natalia Leguizamon finished the night with 11 points. Stellner added 8 points and led the team with 5 rebounds. McCurdy contributed 4 steals on the night.

Elsie Aslesen led the Trojans with 15 points and 4 blocks. Lilli Mackley added 13 points and 3 rebounds. Angela Slattery contributed 9 rebounds.

The V-Hawks will remain at home to take on the Bellevue Bruins on Saturday, Januaryn 21 at 3:00 PM CST.
