Tigers Outshoot V-Hawks on the Road

CRETE, Neb. - The Viterbo University Women's Basketball team traveled to Nebraska to take on the Doane University Tigers. The V-Hawks fell to the Tigers 65-96 bringing their overall record to 2-7 while Doane rises to 6-4.

The Tigers started out hot scoring the first nine points of the game. A layup by Emily McCurdy at the 6:30 mark put the first points on the board for the V-Hawks. A steal and layup by Natalia Leguizamon shortened the gap 8-14 but the Tigers answered back with a jumper by Boston Boucher bringing the score to 10-21. Another steal by Leguizamon would end the first quarter 15-26. The V-Hawks came out strong in quarter two with a three-pointer by Leguizamon, 23-27. Kaitlyn Kennedy landed two free throws putting Viterbo within two points of the Tigers at the 5:38 mark. The teams traded points before a three point jumper by Leguizamon brought the score to 30-34. Doane's Macy Holtz made two free throws to end quarter two heading into halftime 32-41.

A three-pointer by Tiger Rylie Rice put the first points on the board for quarter three. Leguizamon landed two free throws at the 8:21 mark bringing the score to 38-45. The V-Hawks managed to get within five points of the Tigers but a layup and free throw by Kali Staples helped Doane to quickly stretch their lead 40-58. McCurdy landed two free throws at the 2:15 mark with a score of 46-65. Holtz ended quarter three with a jumper, 48-74. The Tigers put up nine more points before a layup by Leguizamon put Viterbo on the board for quarter four, 50-82. Macy Stellner contributed a three point jumper for the V-Hawks at the 4:22 mark with a score of 57-87. Doane's Libby Trausch ended the game with a three-pointer and a final score of 65-96.

The Tigers outshot the V-Hawks from the field (34.8%-41.4%) and from the three (24.0%-35.7%). Viterbo managed to lead in free throw percentage (86.7%-82.4%).

Leguizamon led the V-Hawks with 20 points and four steals. McCurdy contributed 10 points and four rebounds. Emily Bohn added 5 assists and 7 rebounds on the night.

Mak Hatcliff dominated the court with 36 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 steals. Teammate Libby Trausch added 19 points and 6 rebounds. Kali Staples contributed 5 assists.

The V-Hawks will travel to Lawrence, Kansas to compete against Haskell Indian Nations University on Saturday, December 10 at 1:00 PM CST.
