Women's Basketball fails to catch up to the Comets despite second-half push

LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Viterbo University Women's Basketball team hosted conference opponent Mayville State on Friday. The V-Hawks played a strong second half but were unable to make a comeback, falling 65-84. 

Viterbo had a slow start offensively, shooting only 29 percent from the field and converting only one three-pointer, despite 13 total attempts. That sent the V-Hawks into the locker room down 26-43. 

Although they were outscored the first half, the V-Hawk women made the second half much closer, only letting the Comets get a two-point advantage on them in the duration of the half. Viterbo had their most consistent quarter offensively in the fourth, where they shot 53.5 percent from the field and 62.5 percent from behind the arc. 

Nicole Johnson had a strong game offensively for Viterbo, having a team-high 16 points. She also tied for a team-high six rebounds on the night. Sophie Leinfelder came off the bench and contributed 10 points and a team-high three assists.
