Women's Basketball begins NSAA play with a win at Waldorf

FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Viterbo Women's Basketball team (5-3) won their NSAA opener 61-53 on Saturday night against the Warriors of Waldorf University (5-6).

The game was neck-and-neck and saw six lead changes in the first half alone. The biggest lead for either team in the first half came in the second quarter when a Nicole Johnson layup put the V-Hawks up 27-21 with 3:22 left in the quarter. That was all of the cushion the V-Hawks would need, however, and never gave up that lead to win 61-53.

The V-Hawks capitalized on the Warriors mistakes and scored 29 points off of turnovers in the game, compared to Waldorf's seven. The bench also played a huge role in the game, scoring 37 points compared to the Warrior's bench with two points. Chyna Young led the team with 15 points and eight rebounds. Emily McCurdy was not far behind with 12 points of her own.

The V-Hawks will return to R.W. Beggs Sr. Gymnasium on Saturday to face Iowa Wesleyan. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM CST.
