LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo Women's Basketball team (4-4) faced the #24 Dakota State Trojans on Saturday at the Varsity Athletics Center. The V-Hawks gave the Dakota State women a run for their money, but came up just short of the win, losing 66-73.
Madison Lindauer (So. – Tomah, Wis.) scored the first six points for the V-Hawks after draining two three-point shots right off the bat. Ambree Schlosser (Sr. – Eau Galle, Wis.) scored eight quick points for Viterbo towards the end of the first half to send the team into the locker room trailing only 35-39.
The Trojans outscored Viterbo 18-13 in the third quarter, largely due to their 10-3 run to open the second half. A pair of three-pointers in the final minutes from Sophie Leinfelder (So. – La Crosse, Wis.) and Allie Wojtysiak (So. – Cloquet, Minn.) wouldn't quite be enough to push the V-Hawks past Dakota State.
Lindauer would finish with a team-high 14 points for the V-Hawks after converting three of the teams' ten three-pointers. Leinfelder produced 11 points off the bench, as well as a team-high three steals.
The Viterbo Women's Basketball team (4-5) will play a home game next on Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m. against Waldorf University (1-12). The V-Hawks will also see Dakota State again in six days in Trojan territory. Follow the action on our website or by following us on social media.
