V-Hawks Split Home Conference Opener

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Softball team split in their home series against Olivet Nazarene Friday afternoon. The V-Hawks sit at 3-15 (CCAC 2-2) while the Tigers also sit at 15-11 (CCAC 1-3).

Viterbo 0, Olivet 2

The Tigers had a big second inning with two runs that would finish off scoring for the game.

Morgan Fuhrer pitched all seven innings on the mound with three strikeouts and five hits that resulted in two runs for the loss.

At the plate Alexis Watson and Makayla Nortman would lead the V-Hawks with a hit each, Courtney Denton putting up a sacrifice bunt.

Viterbo 6, Olivet 3

The V-Hawks looking to grab the second game of the series would go up three in the bottom of the second, the Tigers making a single run attempt though in both the fourth and fifth innings VU would inch run by run to the win.

On the mound, Madyson Schultz would start, striking out two batters, allowing three runs in six hits for the win. In relief Ava Keicher would pitch the final inning.

Alina Garstka would lead the V-Hawks with a three run homer, while Natalie Martin would bomb three doubles grabbing an RBI. Courtney Denton would also collect two RBIs off a double and another hit.

The V-Hawks are back in action Tuesday April 1 at Trinity Christian.
