TUSCON, Ariz. – The Viterbo University Softball team fell in their first day of spring training to Valley City State 13-3 and Dickinson State (ND) 5-3 on Sunday. The V-Hawks sink to 1-5 on the season.
Viterbo 3, Valley City State 13
The Vikings took an early lead going up 5-0 in the bottom of the third inning before the V-Hawks would climb back three, though the Vikings took full control ending the game.
Madyson Schultz started on the mound for the V-Hawks facing 14 batters allowing four hits, five runs, and two strikeouts for the loss. Emily Roberts would come in relief letting up four hits before Alexis Watson would come out next with one strikeout and allowing five runs over three hits.
At the plate Megan Jardine would hit a triple collecting two RBIs along side Watson with an RBI of her own
Viterbo 3, Dickinson State 5
The V-Hawks starting down would get on the board with a line drive. With two runs on the top of the sixth the V-Hawks closed in though the Blue Hawks would seal their win with a run in the bottom of the inning.
Watson would kick off the game with four innings pitched striking out two batters, while allowing seven hits and four runs for the loss, while in relief Schultz allowed only one hit and a run.
Makayla Nortman would collect an RBI on a line drive to send in Chelseas Paulsen, while Natalie Martin and Alina Garstka would take sac.
The V-Hawks are back in action March 10 for day two of spring training against Concordia (NE).
