Alonzo Leads Steam into Inaugural Season

LA CROSSE, Wis. – This summer marks the first season for the La Crosse Steam, an inaugural member of the Northwoods Women's Summer Collegiate Softball League, and Viterbo Softball Head Coach Brandi Alonzo will help lead the team as an assistant coach.

The Northwoods league started the first for-profit Summer Collegiate Baseball League 30 years ago, and now makes history again with the first for-profit Women's Summer Collegiate Softball League. The team is made of collegiate softball players looking to develop for their college, Olympic, and professional careers.

Saturday, June 15 marks the home season opener at Copeland Park, the first game of the 40-game season, against the Madison Night Mares at 6:35 PM.

Alonzo recently finished her 10th season as the leader of the V-Hawks. She brings over 15 years of softball coaching and administration experience, and also played four years at the University of Southern Mississippi.
