Warriors Earn Doubleheader Wins over the V-Hawks

FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Viterbo University Softball team dropped a pair of games to NSAA opponent Waldorf University (Iowa) on Saturday evening, 0-7 and 3-6. The V-Hawks fall to 9-36 (5-17 NSAA), while the Warriors improve to 7-27 (6-15 NSAA).

The first game would start with a Marissa Carter-Olson single in the top of the first, but the Warriors would score first in the bottom of the second on a solo home run and two-RBI single. After a Makyla Nortman single and steal in the top of the third, Waldorf scored three more runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth. WU scored one final run in the bottom of the sixth, and while Natalie Martin singled in the top of the seventh, it was not enough and the Warriors won 7-0.

Nortman, Carter-Olson, and Martin recorded three hits for the V-Hawks, and Nortman and Amanda Bogdonovich each had a stolen base. Three Warriros had multiple hits. Alexis Watson (L, 5-15) recorded the loss, while Mckenna Mentink (W, 1-12) earned the complete game win.

The V-Hawks would be the first on the board in the second game on a Courtney Denton RBI single that brought in Carter-Olson in the top of the second. Waldorf matched the run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the frame, then took the lead in the bottom of the fifth with three runs scored on three hits. Carter-Olson followed Megan Jardine's triple with a home run to close the deficit, but WU answered with a two-run shot of their own and secured the 6-3 win.

Carter-Olson led the V-Hawks with two hits and two RBIs, while Kaela Eslinger had two hits for Waldorf. Emily Roberts (L, 1-9) had two strikeouts, and Maddie Dalke (W, 5-11) pitched a complete game win with five Ks.
