League-Leading Bruins Sweep V-Hawks

OMAHA, Neb. – The Viterbo University Softball team lost a pair of games to NSAA-leading Bellevue University (Neb.) on Sunday, 0-8, and 4-15. The V-Hawks fall to 9-34 (5-15 NSAA), while the Bruins improve to 29-16 (18-2 NSAA).

The V-Hawks started the first game with a single from Sydney Haakenson in the first, followed by one from Kate Olsen in the second, however, the Bruins would get on the board in the bottom of the inning with four runs scored on three hits and a Viterbo error. VU produced three more baserunners in the game, but were unable to score, and Bellevue scored two runs in both the fourth and fifth to end the game early.

Megan Jardine had two hits for the V-Hawks, while Savannah Gunn was 3-of-3 for BU. Alexis Watson (L, 5-13) recorded the loss, while Katie Cunningham (W, 16-6) secured the victory.

Bellevue kept the momentum into the second game, with six runs scored in the bottom of the first inning, coming on five hits. Amanda Bogdonovich stopped the bleeding with an RBI single in the top of the first, followed by a two-run homer from Natalie Martin. Bellevue extended their lead with a single run in both the second and third innings, and a huge fourth inning, brining in seven runs with three hits and a trio of V-Hawk errors. Makayla Nortman would score on an error in the fifth, but Viterbo got no closer than that.

Nortman had two hits for the V-Hawks, while Nortman earned a pair of RBIs. Breanne McMurtry recorded three hits for the Bruins. Emily Roberts (L, 1-7) recorded the loss, while Gunn (W, 10-5) earned the win with four strikeouts.

The V-Hawks return to action on Saturday, April 27 at Waldorf University (Iowa).
