Pioneers Narrowly Edge V-Hawks in Doubleheader

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Softball team dropped a pair of games to UW-Platteville on Saturday afternoon, 0-1 and 2-3. The V-Hawks fall to 6-25 (3-9 CCAC) on the year, while the Pioneers improve to 17-3.

Both teams would produce baserunners in the first and second innings, with Kate Olsen recording a single for Viterbo. Sydney Haakenson and Amanda Bogdonovich each reached base over the next two innings as well, but both defenses held strong, and after Makayla Nortman was left on in the seventh, the game went to extra innings. An RBI single from the Pioneers put them on the board, and a Morgan James single wasn't enough to match, as VU fell, 0-1.

Five different V-Hawks recorded hits, while two Pioneers had multiple hits. Alexis Watson (L, 4-10) struck out six batters, while Roughen (W, 11-1) had 12 for UWP.

Megan Jardine and James each had early hits in the second game as well, but it wasn't until Marissa Carter-Olson's two-RBI single in the second that the V-Hawks would get on the board. The Pioneers had an answer, however, with back-to-back RBI doubles and an RBI single in the top of the fourth. The V-Hawks produced three baserunners in the bottom of the frame, but left them all on base, as well as leaving tow more on in the sixth, and one in the seventh.

Jardine, James, and Bogdonovich all had two hits for Viterbo, while J. Johnson was 3-of-3 for Platteville. Emily Roberts recorded the loss, while J. Michalak earned the win.

The V-Hawks return to action on Wednesday, April 10 on the road at Mount Mercy University (Iowa).
