Dickinson Steals Home Conference Openers from V-Hawks

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Softball team hosted their home conference opener on Friday, dropping a pair of games to Dickinson State (ND), 6-10, and 2-6. The V-Hawks are now 3-16 (0-2 NSAA) on the season, while the Blue Hawks sit at 7-13 (2-0 NSAA).

Dickinson State would take the first lead of the game, going up 2-0 in the top of the second with an RBI double and RBI single, and added another run in the third. However, the V-Hawks came alive in the bottom of the frame with a Sydney Haakenson RBI single, a Marissa Carter-Olson2 RBI double, and an Amanda Bogdonovich three-RBI home run. The Blue Hawks started their comeback with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, took the lead back in the sixth after four runs on two hits, and added two insurance runs in the seventh. Viterbo managed two runs in the bottom of the seven, but were unable to score.

Haakenson, Morgan James, and Courtney Denton each had two hits, while Bogdonovich recorded three RBIs. Thee different Blue Hawks recorded a pair of hits. Amanda Bogdonovich (L, 0-2) had two strikeouts, while Hope Fath (W, 1-2) had one and Reannan Butler earned the save.

Viterbo had four hits over the first three innings, but DSU was first on the board with two unearned runs in the top of the fourth. However, Viterbo would answer with a run scored on a Megan Jardine double and another on a Haakenson double. The Blue Hawks took back the lead following three runs in the top of the fifth. They added one more in the seventh, while Viterbo only managed one more hit and no runs.

Haakenson and Jardine each had two hits and an RBI, while seven different Blue Hawks had a hit. Makayla Nortman (L, 1-1) had two strikeouts, while Butler earned the win.

The teams complete their series on Saturday, March 16.
