Warriors Complete Sweep Over V-Hawks

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Viterbo University Softball team fell to (RV) Indiana Tech in a pair of games on Sunday, 8-3 and 5-0. The V-Hawks fall to 1-8 on the year, while the Warriors improve to 6-0.

In the top of the second inning, Morgan James gave Viterbo a 1-0 lead with a solo homerun. However, the Warriors responded with five runs on two hits in the bottom of the frame, and they added three more runs in the fourth. Makayla Nortman singled in the fifth, but the V-Hawks wouldn't score until a James RBI double in the sixth, bringing in Sydney Haakenson. Megan Jardine batted in Mikaela Jacobs in the top of the seventh as well, but the rally ended there.

James led the V-Hawks, going 2-of-3 with two RBIs, and two other V-Hawks added hits. Maire Trouba had a hit and three RBIs for Indiana Tech. Alexis Watson recorded the loss, while Amanda Bogdonovich struck out three batters over 4.2 innings. Grace Butcher (W, 3-0) posted the complete game win.

Jardine singled in the top of the first inning of the second game, and Courtney Denton added a single in the second. IT scored with a solo home run in the second, stole home in the third, and a two RBI double in the fourth. Bogdonovic and Jardine each singled in the fifth, but were stranded on base before another Warrior RBI single in the sixth for the 5-0 win.

Jardine was 2-of-3 at the plate, while three other V-Hawks added a hit. Six different Warriors had a hit. Alexis Watson (L, 0-4) had three K's, and Savannah Bravo (W, 4-0) had 11.

The V-Hawks return to action on Friday, March 8 against Graceland (Iowa) in the first game at the Tucson Invitational.
