V-Hawks Suffer a Pair of Setbacks

AUSTIN, Minn. – The Viterbo University Softball team lost a pair of games in the Packer Dome in Austin, Minn. on Saturday afternoon. The first game saw a 0-8 loss to Clarke University (Iowa), followed by a 0-3 setback against Mount Mercy (Iowa). The V-Hawks are now 1-5 on the year.

Against Clarke, the Pride would strike first with two runs on one hit in the first inning, and the defense stifled the V-Hawks, not allowing a baserunner. They added another run in the fourth, and five in the fifth to enforce the run-rule.

Malarie Huseman (W, 1-0) recorded a perfect game with seven strikeouts, while Alexis Watson (L, 0-2) recorded one strikeout.

Against Mount Mercy, the Mustangs took the lead in the third inning with a pair of runs, and added a third in the fourth.

Logan Neblock, Sydney Haakenson, and Alina Garstka each had a hit for the V-Hawks, while Allie Poston had three of the hits for MMU. Morgan Fuhrer (L, 1-2) had two strikeouts, and Alyssa McElvain (W, 2-1) had seven.

Viterbo returns to action on Saturday, March 2 against Saint Francis (Ind.).
