James, Carter-Olson Named NSAA First-Team

 DICKINSON, N.D. – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) announced its 2023 Softball All-Conference Teams, Gold Glove team and postseason awards Thursday evening on the eve of the postseason tournament.  The awards recognition was held at the Biesiot Activities Center on the campus of Dickinson State (N.D.).

Morgan James and Marissa Carter-Olson were each selected to the All-NSAA First-Team.

James, a Senior catcher from Mineral Point, Wis. builds on her second-team selection from last season, as she led the NSAA with nine home runs this season. She also batted in 38 runs (eighth) while hitting .393 (ninth), and holding a slugging percentage of .714 (second). On defense, she held a .942 fielding percentage with 777 putouts and 20 assists on 103 total chances.

Carter-Olson, an infielder from Oshkosh, Wis., was the only freshman to earn First-Team honors. She hit .391 on the year with 36 hits and 14 RBIs. She also had nine doubles and a home run. She fielded .975with 109 put outs and eight assists on 120 total chances.

James and Carter-Olson are the first V-Hawks to be named to an All-Conference First-Team since 2012.

Courtney Denton, a freshman infielder from Menifee, Calif., was selected as Viterbo's Champion of Character. Denton earned this award for embodying the NAIA's five core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership both on and off the field.

The NSAA Softball All-Conference Teams, Gold Glove Team and postseason awards were voted by the league coaches.  The 2023 NSAA All-Conference Teams consists of 31 recipients, 20 athletes on the first team and 11 athletes on the second team.
