Viterbo Claims Victory on Senior Day

LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Viterbo University Softball team celebrated Senior Day on their last regular season home game on Sunday. The V-Hawks battled the Presentation College Saints in a single game and brought home the win 3-2 in an 8-inning game. Viterbo ends the regular season with a record of 17-26 overall (11-16 NSAA) while the Saints end their season 11-27 (7-17 NSAA). 

Cassy Loa helped the Saints take the lead in the top of the first before retiring Viterbo's first three batters going into inning two. Both teams went scoreless in the second inning before a sacrifice bunt by Amanda Bogdonovich allowed teammate Megan Jardine to score tieing the game 1-1. Presentation reclaimed their lead in the top of the fifth with an RBI by Isabella Proctor. Sydney Haakenson earned a walk with bases loaded to tie the game 2-2 heading into the sixth. Both teams failed to score in the sixth and seventh innings and the game went into inning eight. The Saints were able to get one on base but weren't able to score going into the bottom of the eighth. With two outs, Marissa Carter was able to hit a single through the left side. With Grace Brewer in as pinch runner, Megan Jardine managed to hit a fly ball to right center allowing Brewer to score and win the game 3-2.

Jardine with three for four at the plate including two doubles. Carter also went three for four at the plate. Morgan Fuhrer recorded the win pitching the final three innings of the game and striking out 3 batters. Lauren Paredes recorded the loss pitching 0.2 innings. 

Viterbo will head to Dickinson, North Dakota to compete in the NSAA Tournament on Thursday, May 4th.
