Bruins Top V-Hawks in Doubleheader

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Softball team fell to Bellevue University (Neb.) in a pair of games in their North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) doubleheader on Sunday. Bellevue took the first game 2-11 and the second game 1-12. The V-Hawks fell to 2-14 (0-4 NSAA) while the Bruins improve to 14-7 (4-0 NSAA).

Bellevue started off the game hot with a run in the top of the first followed with three more in the top of the second. With a hot fourth inning, the Bruins were able to score seven runs through 4 RBIs. The V-Hawks were able to add two runs by Marissa Carter-Olson doubled to right field bring in Addie Schroeder and Grace Brewer grounded out to second base bring Marissa Carter-Olson to score.

Makayla Nortman, Morgan James, Marissa Carter-Olson, and Grace Brewer all had hits for the V-Hawks, while Reese Floro went 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs. Ella Driebel (0-3) has the lost for the V-Hawks. Lauren Jurek (W, 3-1) had three strikeouts in four innings.

Bellevue stayed hot for the second game scoring one in the first inning as well as the fifth inning. To expand their lead, the Bruins scored five runs in both the sixth and seventh innings including homeruns by Sami Reding and Liana McMurtry.  Viterbo put one run on the board by Alina Garstka singling up the middle bring Sydney Haakenson to second base and Grace Brewer to score.

Alina Garstka went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI. Marisa Carter-Olson and Grace Brewer were able to each get a hit. Reese Floro went 3-for-4 with 1 RBI, and Liana McMurtry went 2-for-4 with 5 RBIs. Maddie Wilkey (L,1-6) had a single strikeout, and Savannah Gunn (W, 3-1) had four.

The V-Hawks next game with be on Tuesday, March 28 2pm and 4pm vs. Martin Luther College (Minn).
