Viterbo Softball ends regular season with a series win on the road

ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Viterbo University Softball team completed their regular season schedule on May 2nd. The V-Hawks faced the Presentation College Saints and won three of the four-game series.

Game one: Viterbo - 2, Presentation - 1

• Game one was a low scoring game with Viterbo putting the first run on the board in the second inning
• Presentation answered back in inning three putting one run on the board going into the fourth inning with a tie game
• Morgan James hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to add the V-Hawks second and final run of the game

Game two: Viterbo - 10, Presentation - 1

• Viterbo got off to a head start in inning one scoring 5 runs and holding Presentation to 0
• A home run by Brittney Slocum helped the V-Hawks keep up the momentum scoring another 2 runs in the second inning
• Slocum contributed again in the third inning hitting a double and putting 2 more runs on the board for the V-Hawks
• The V-Hawks and the Saints each scored 1 run in the fifth and final inning with a final score of 10-1
• Key players: Brittney Slocum - home run, double, four RBI, 2 runs scored; Amanda Bogdonovich - three doubles, four runs scored

Game three: Viterbo - 8, Presentation - 4

• Both teams got off to a slow start in game three with Viterbo scoring their first 2 runs in the second inning and Presentation scoring their first in the third inning
• The V-Hawks and the Saints each scored 0 runs in the fourth and fifth innings to go into the sixth inning with a score of 2-1
• Viterbo Softball dominated in the sixth inning scoring 6 points with a double by Brittney Slocum and allowing the Saints to score 1 point
• Presentation added 2 runs in the seventh inning, but it wasn't enought, making the final score 8-4
• Key players: Brittney Slocum - double, 2 RBI, 1 run scored; Amanda Bogdonovich - 2 RBI, 1 run scored; Gracie Hamann - RBI, 2 runs scored; Ella Driebel pitched all seven innings allowing 5 hits and 4 runs

Game four: Viterbo - 2, Presentation - 3

• The final game of the series was a low scoring game for both teams with Viterbo scoring their first run in the second inning
• The Saints answered with 2 runs scored in the third inning
• It was a hard-fought battle by both teams with Viterbo tying the score 2-2 in the seventh inning and forcing the game into extra innings
• The Saints scored the winning run in the eighth inning ending the game with a final score of 2-3
• Key players: Emily Roberts - RBI in the seventh inning to tie the game; Maddie Wilkey - scored run to tie the game

The Viterbo Softball team ended regular season with an overall record of 9-37 and conference record of 5-23. The NSAA Postseason Softball Tournament will be hosted at the PREMIER Softball Complex in Watertown, S.D. on May 5-7. No. 8 seed Viterbo is guaranteed to play two games on May 5th with the first game against No. 1 seed Bellevue University Bruins at 12:30 PM CDT.
