Viterbo Places 3rd at NSAA Conference Meet; One Finishes Top Ten
DICKINSON, N.D. - The Viterbo University Men's Cross Country team placed 3rd and landed one runner in the top ten at the 2022 North Star Athletic Association Men's Cross Country Championships on Friday. Dickinson State University (N.D.) hosted the meet at Heart River Golf Course in Dickinson. The top 10 individual runners would receive NSAA All-Conference Team awards.
Dakota State claimed their 5th consecutive NSAA Cross Country title with 8 runners in the top ten tallying 19 points. Dickinson State took second with 67 points. Viterbo placed third with 92 points and a time of 2:27:38.50. Bellevue had a score of 96 putting them in fourth. Valley City State took fifth place with 106 points. Waldorf placed sixth place with a score of 157.
Cody Farland of Dakota State was the 2022 NSAA Men's Cross Country individual champion with a time of 26:11.10. Freshman V-Hawk Cameron LaMere placed second with a time of 26:14.90. The next V-Hawk to cross the finish line was Garrett Eick in 17th place with a time of 28:27.50. Evan David followed in 21st place with a time of 28:51.00.
Other runners for the Viterbo included Andrew Kaja (40th, 31:35.40), Bryce Ertman (42nd, 32:30.00), and Tanner Groshek (43rd, 32:46.20).
Cameron LaMere also qualified to compete at the NAIA National Championships by finishing in the top four runners not on the winning team. All runners must also finish in the top 15 to qualify.
Junior Ben Fleuchaus was the V-Hawk selected as the NSAA Champion of Character Recipient. Other recipients of this award included Collin Kotz (Bellevue), Tucker Murtha (Dakota State), Tyrel Ackman (Dickinson State), Bryce Nelson (Valley City State), and Andrew Huber (Waldorf).
LaMere will travel to will travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to run at the NAIA National Cross Country Championships on Friday, November 18 at 7:30AM CST.
