Bio

Simon enters his sixth season as the Head Men’s Volleyball Coach. He has been the only head coach in program history, and has also served as a women’s volleyball assistant coach for eight years. Simon has coached at the collegiate level for over 30 seasons at the NCAA Division I & II and NAIA levels.

Under Simon, Viterbo increased their win total from three in 2019, to 14 in 2020. The V-Hawks had their second winning seaosn in 2022, going 12-8. 

Simon has coached six All-Conference performers, including 2-time (2020, 2021) CACC Co-Libero of the Year, Thomas Robson, and five NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

Before coming to Viterbo, Simon spent seven seasons at NCAA Division II Winona State University. He was named Head Women’s Volleyball Coach entering the 2009 season after spending two seasons as an assistant coach. In five seasons as head coach, Simon totaled a record of 69-80 with a 20-win season in 2012. He led the Warriors to a spot on the regional rankings twice.

Simon was the women’s volleyball head coach at NCAA Division II Minnesota-Crookston for seven years. In the 1990’s, he got his start as an women’s volleyball assistant coach on the NCAA Division I level, spending a combined eight seasons at both Virginia Tech and Wyoming. In his first season at Virginia Tech, the Hokies won the 1992 Metro Conference Championship.

Simon is a member of the Midwest Volleyball Instructors camp, and has played on men's teams out of Minneapolis in the North Country Region and in the Old Dominion Region out of Virginia Tech.

Simon earned master's degree of science and education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in 1993. He earned a bachelors' degree in business and mass communications from Mankato State University in 1984.

Simon lives in Minnesota City, Minn. with wife Kathy. They have three adult sons, Greg, Matt, and Jason.
