V-Hawks Take Set from #7 Mount Mercy

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo Men's Volleyball team fell in a nonconference matchup with #7 Mount Mercy University Tuesday evening 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 25-18, 27-25). The V-Hawks sit at 4-23 (CCAC 0-7), while the Mustangs rise to 17-5 (HoA 11-3).

The V-Hawks with a slow start would put Logan Amdur at the set for a quick three points with kills from Ethan Davis, Styrk Myhre, and Riley Connors. The Mustangs would then go on a seven point run before Connors would take down a kill. Battling back Connors would take back to back kills followed by a block by Amdur and Justin Kratzenstein.

Jack Peroz making a return to the floor would help open the second set with a kill, at the net shortly after posting up a block with Amdur. On a four point run Kratzenstein would be strong with two back to back blocks supported by Connors and Amdur. The Amdur-Kratzenstein combo would jump claiming set two over the Mustangs.

Mount Mercy turning up the heat in the third would grab a quick eight points early before Amdur would be defensive at the net with a series of blocks. Davis on the serve would take an ace before the Mustangs would go on a four point run, Davis sneaking one last kill before MMU would take the set.

Max Dugan with a set would get the V-Hawks on the board with a kill by Davis, Connors and Peroz putting up a block shortly after. On a three point run Alex Kratzenstein and Myhre would grab needed kills to bring the score within one. Davis and Burton Bosan Jr. sending past aces, Amdur completing the trifecta with one of his own, followed by a lasting kill by Davis.

Davis and Connors led with 11 kills each, Amdur set up 32 assists, and Dugan took 18 digs. The Mustangs were led by Brian Lynch with 19 kills.  

The V-Hawks return to action Friday, March 28 for a rematch at Calumet.
