V-Hawks Suffer a Pair of Setbacks

Miami Gardens, Fla. – The Viterbo Men's Volleyball team fell in day one of their spring break tour to Governors State University 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-21) and host St. Thomas University 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-19). The V-Hawks fall to 2-16 (CCAC 0-3).  

Alex Kratzenstein opened the match with a kill for the V-Hawks followed by Logan Amdur setting up the ball for Ethan Davis before smacking down a kill from Daxton Marschall. The V-Hawks keeping set one close would find Davis with the next three kills, followed by a block by Styrk Myhre and Riley Connors. Connors and Myhre strong at the net would take another block, Kratzenstein taking the final two kills of the set.

Viterbo with a slow start in set tow would set up Davis for the kill, followed by Amdur with back to back kills. Connors taking the next three kills for the V-Hawks, Burton Bosan Jr. continuing the scoring with an ace. Only down by one Connors would claim a solo block though the Jaguars would take the final three points.

Davis coming out hot with a kill on the first point would be followed by another kill and a followup by Connors. The V-Hawks strong at the net, Davis would claim the next three V-Hawk kills and an ace, Myhre continuing the scoring with a kill from Amdur and Davis driving two more to a point before the end.

Davis led the V-Hawks with 17 kills, Amdur with 31 assists, and Dugan with nine digs. Pedro Castillo led the Jaguars with 12 kills.

The V-Hawks opening game two with an Amdur kill followed by a Myhre kill at the net. On a six point run Kratzenstein and Amdur would get kills, and Marschall with a service ace.

Myhre's kill would get the scoring moving for the V-Hawks, Amdur continuing with a solo block and a kill. Max Dugan on the service would claim an ace, with Amdur with a block at the net keeping the game within reach, until back to back three point runs and an error would end set two.

Amdur with an ace and a kill would open set three, Myhre and Connors carrying at the net with another block before Connors would claim a kill. Viterbo volleying for the lead would put Kratzenstein on the ball for a series of kills.

Kratzenstein led the V-Hawks with eight kills, Amdur with 13 assists, and Dugan with seven digs.

The V-Hawks return to action Saturday March 8 in Miami Gardens for day two of the St. Thomas Tournament.
