V-Hawks Win in Five Set Thriller
LA CROSSE, Wis – The Viterbo Men's Volleyball team came out on top against RV University of Jamestown on Friday night 3-2 (27-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-22, 15-13). The V-Hawks rise to 2-8, while the Jimmies sink to 4-10.
Styrk Myhre took the first kill of the match for the V-Hawks quickly followed by Alex Kratzenstein. The V-Hawks with a small deficit, Logan Amdur served up an ace before Myhre struck down back to back kills. Amdur setting up Ethan Davis for the kill would set the V-Hawks neck and neck at the 20 point mark, Kratzenstein and Jack Peroz with a clock, keeping set one close until the end.
The V-Hawks capitalizing on a series of errors, Amdur sending over a kill from Max Dugan, followed by Davis, Peroz, and Amdur with the block. Riley Connors working on the outside with back to back kills, VU on a four point run with kills from Amdur, Myhre, Davis and a block by the Myhre-Davis duo. With one point left in the set Davis would take the kill.
Connors carrying his second set momentum, would get the first two kills of the set for the V-Hawks, Kratzenstein with the next two, Davis on back to back kills, keeping the game within two. Myhre with another series of kills, before Amdur would set up Kratzenstein for two more.
Viterbo quick in the third would collect three points Myhre leading the chard with kills and a block with Connors, Davis tying up the set once again with a kill from Amdur. Peroz sending over an ace and two kills by Davis would put the V-Hawks ahead, Kratzenstein giving the final kill.
Davis and Connors on the attack, competed by an ace by Daxton Marschall set the V-Hawks up for a three point run for the lead. The match on the line VU took the timeout, and Myhre took the final blow.
Davis led the V-Hawks with 17 kills and 11 digs, Amdur claimed 48 assists, and Dugan took 24 digs. Markam Cook and Tomasz Swiderski led the Jimmies with 11 digs each.
The V-Hawks return to action Saturday February 22 for day two of a Tri Match against #2 Saint Xavier (ill).
